Ending the Hot Month of August

Hot Month of August

Trying to come up with another blog idea reminds me that stories come into my head much easier than ideas for marketing. I recently posted on Facebook that there must be an easier way to sell books.

When I sit back and look at the commercials on TV, there might be a couple versions of each commercial, but they saturate the market with the same one over and over until you can't get the commercial out of your head. They want you to remember their brand. But will you end up buying their product?

A lot of them are about insurance or toothpaste or floor cleaners. But the odds are you may not need those now, but when you do, you'll probably think of their product. To get these products into the minds of shoppers, they spend a lot of money. Once you buy their product, you may not want to switch back, so then you've become a customer for life.

When it comes to books and reading, people look for their next adventure, entertaining story, or escape mechanism. I like imagining that I'm the heroine, going through all the adventures or experiences of that character. And readers don't just consume one book and they're done. No. They read more books, looking for their next story. Sometimes I can't get a character out of my head. I want to know more about them--what happens next? I think other readers are like that as well, so they follow that author to see what else she or he has written. Are they writing a series? What's next in the series? Whose story are they telling?

One marketing idea is to just write the next story and the next and soon you'll have followers or readers wanting more of your books. I enjoy writing these stories. Now, I have to convince people to buy my books so they can enjoy reading them. This takes a different point of view of my work so I can promote it.

For the rest of the year, I hope to do just that to bring up the sales of my books. After all, more book sales will allow me to continue writing more books for you to enjoy. Now, go and enjoy the rest of the month--Happy August!

While it's the last of the month, this month has been weird to say the least. We've had weeks of rain. Where was the rain in April? Then we had several nights in the 40's. What happened to the warm we
